SUNY ESF GRF

The State University of New York Environmental Science & Forestry is committed to carbon neutrality, energy conservation and efficiency, utilizing renewable energy, and sustainable practices. To assist in sustainably funding and incentivizing these efforts, ESF has created a green revolving fund (GRF). In 2016, ESF hired the College’s first full time energy manager and formed a new energy working group that will oversee the GRF and related initiatives in cooperation with ESF physical plant, sustainability office, business office and other key stakeholders. The creation of ESF’s GRF was a student-driven initiative, and ESF will seek to continue involving students in the process and foster synergies between the GRF, curriculum and research whenever possible. ESF has created a GRF charter as a guiding document to provide common understanding of the fund’s history, purpose, management, project criteria, measurement and verification standards and reporting requirements.

The higher education participants in The Challenge are managed by Second Nature. To learn more about how Second Nature plans to expand use of GRFs in higher education, visit their page!
